Services

We're pleased to offer the following services in our Portsmouth Veterinary Clinic:

Appointments

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Urgent care walk-ins are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

Urgent Care

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our team will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Emergencies

We are available to see emergencies during our regular hospital hours. When our clinic is not open, we recommend you contact the emergency clinic closest to you for veterinary care.

Types of Pets Seen

Because a large number of veterinarians practice at Churchland Animal Clinic, we can care for many types of pets:

  • Dogs
  • Cats

Payments

Churchland Animal Clinic accepts payment via cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and CareCredit. So that we can continue to provide you high quality service utilizing the best medical technologies, we request that payment be made at the time services are rendered.

Upon your request, we will provide estimates for all surgeries and hospitalizations. If you have not received an estimate, you are welcome to request one at any time.

General Surgery

Surgery (Small).jpg We have designed our surgery and anesthesia protocols to provide the best in safety and revovery for your pet during his or her surgical procedure.  Pre-anesthetic examinations and diagnostics, diligent anesthetic monitoring and pain medications tailored for your pet's specific needs ensure a safe and comfortable surgical experience.  Your pet's surgical technician will meet with you prior to admitting your pet for surgery to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Radiographs

Our high quality digital radiography (x-ray) machine allows us to download your pet's radiographs directly into his/her medical record.  Going "digital" allows us to show you your pet's x-rays from any of our computer screens in our exam rooms and saves time for our doctors when they need to access your pet's radiograph history.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a valuable imaging tool we have available to visualize your patient's internal organs.

Dental Cleanings/Extractions

Routine dentistry is as important for dogs and cats as it is for humans.  Scaling and polishing of the patient's teeth is provided.  Extractions are performed by our doctors if necessary.

On-site laboratory

Whether your pet is ill or undergoing a surgical procedure, it is a comfort to know that our on-site laboratory provies rapid test results allowing quick response to your pet's needs.  A professional diagnostic laboratory is available five days a week for more extensive diagnostic testing for our patients.  Results are often available in less than 24 hours.

Pharmacy

We carry a complete line of the most commonly used prescriptions and non-prescription medications and animal health care products for the convenience of our clients.  Heartworm preventatives and monthly flea and tick preventatives you can trust are backed by the manufacturer.  For your additional convenience, you can order prescription refills through ePet Records.

Preventative Health Care

Cat_Exam_.jpg Our doctors stress the importance of semi-annual wellness exams for your pet.  Pet's cannot tell us how they feel, so by performing semi-annual physical exams we can detect many early or hidden problems.  These comprehensive semi-annual wellness exams can help your pet have a longer, healthier life.  Because dogs and cats age much more quickly than humans, an exam that is performed only once a year is similar to you visiting your doctor every 6-8 years for a check-up.

Vaccinations

Due to the changing protocols regarding vaccination frequency combined with the many factors to consider, such as age, lifestyle and risk or exposure in individual environments, our team will develop a personalized vaccination plan based on your pet's individual risk assessment and needs.

Nutritional Counseling

Good nutrition is important to all pets; from the growing puppy or kitten to the aging senior pet.  We can address each individual pet's needs and recommend the best diet.  We carry a full line of therapeutic diets for dogs and cats that address skin disease, kidney disease, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and more.

Behavioral counseling

We can provide basic educational information and assistance on behavioral issues.  For more involved issues, we may recommend a Behavior Specialist.

Boarding

We offer boarding for both dogs and cats.  Our staff will care for your pet like he or she were their own.  We require a reservation for boarding and offer boarding to current clients.

Microchipping

Millions of pets are lost each year.  Some are found and unfortunately, some are lost forever.  You can protect your dog or cat from this fate by having him/her implanted with a permanent microchip.  The microchip is a small, sterile transponder that contains a unique id code capable of being read by a compatible scanner.  Scanners are used by animal agencies, humane societies, and veterniarians throughout the United States.  A recovery service registers your contact information and your pet's description, age, species, breed, etc. and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help return your pet if he or she is lost.

Relocation

Moving to a new area can be stressful.  We have developed a relocation package to help make your move a little easier.  You can register your pets with our clinic by filling out the Client Registration form and returning it back to us via mail or fax.  You can also request records from your previous veterinarian using our Medical Record Request form.  This form allows you to have your pet's records forwarded to our clinic so we have the medical details for your pet.  It also allows us to input your pet's reminders in our computer system so no important services are missed.  We have also included some traveling tips and information to help you with your move.  For your convenience, we have also included a boarding and bath request form in case you need to board your pets while unpacking or just want them to enter your new home nice and clean.

Pet Insurance

We are happy to work with all veterinary pet insurances.  If you are interested in pet insurance, our staff would be happy to discuss your pet's options.
