Churchland Animal Clinic provides comprehensive pet wellness services for the Portsmouth pet community. From vaccinations and pet dental care to microchipping and spay/neuter surgery, our Portsmouth veterinarian is passionate about proactive veterinary care. Our wellness care philosophy is simple: preventing illness not only helps your pet live a longer, healthier life, but also reduces the expense of veterinary care.

Portsmouth Veterinarian Stresses Wellness Care for Your Pet's Long-Term Health

Pet vaccinations and regular exams are the foundation for our wellness care program. All pets should receive the core vaccination series. Depending on your pet’s lifestyle, additional vaccinations, such as bordetella (kennel cough) may be necessary. Our Portsmouth veterinarian works closely with pet owners to create a custom vaccination treatment program. During your pet’s wellness exam, we will confirm that your pet is up-to-date on all critical vaccinations.

Our preventative health care program includes regular wellness exams to monitor your pet’s overall health. The earlier we can diagnose a potential health problem, the more our veterinary team is able to do to treat this condition before your pet’s health is adversely affected. Since dogs and cats age much faster than humans, semi-annual wellness exams are essential to your pet’s health.

A regular dental cleaning is just as important for your pet’s health as wellness exams. The majority of pets aged three years or older have periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth loss, gum irritation, and bacterial infections. Since dogs and cats cannot brush their own teeth, regular dental cleanings are critical to preventing plaque buildup and bacterial infections. During a dental cleaning, we will also inspect the mouth and gums for oral cancers or other anomalies.

Good nutrition is essential for all pets. A healthy, balanced diet will give your young puppy or kitten a healthy head start in life and keep him active for years to come. In addition to our nutrition counseling services, we carry a full line of therapeutic diets for dogs and cats that address skin disease, kidney disease, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and more.

Spay and neuter surgery is a vital part of pet wellness care. Spaying and neutering pets not only reduces the unwanted animal population, but also reduces the risk for certain cancers and reproductive disorders. We recommend spaying or neutering all pets before they reach sexual maturity, usually between five and six months of age. Check out our Frequently asked questions

Even with proactive wellness care, our Portsmouth veterinarian understands that pets can still become ill. In the event of a non-life threatening emergency, our animal clinic offers urgent care appointments. We will do our best to squeeze you in as quickly as possible. Should an after-hours emergency occur, contact the nearest emergency vet clinic for immediate care.
